Consider Jazz

Sketch I drew of a trumpeter that later became something else.

white people love
Black art
Black music
Black poetry
Black performance.

“It’s so beautiful! Such tragic melancholy, beautiful pain!”

And it IS beautiful

But not because it’s tragic
Or melancholic
Or pain.

It’s beautiful because it is beautiful.

Fuck a white world
That causes Black pain
And then demands
Their anguish
be consumed
as entertainment.

Consider a moment, what Jazz would be like:

If in addition to making music
The singer did not have to fight
for their

GODDAMN
right
to
live.
